Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Reclaiming Reiki?

Reclaiming Reiki is a soul‑led space for energetic restoration, self‑sovereignty, and remembrance. Our course offerings are designed to support individuals in reconnecting with their own wisdom, life force, and inner authority using Reiki‑informed practices. Reclaiming Reiki at it’s core is a community of individuals grounded in the ongoing practice of awareness, presence, and energetic responsibility.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice that works with universal life force energy. It is a gentle, non‑invasive modality often used for relaxation, energetic balance, and spiritual support. Reiki does not require belief to receive benefit—it meets each person exactly where they are.

What does “reclaiming” mean in Reclaiming Reiki?

“Reclaiming” means coming back into relationship with yourself - your energy, boundaries, intuition, and inherent wholeness. It is the practice of building trust in your inner knowing and relating to Reiki as something that comes from within, rather than something given or bestowed.

For BIPOCs, reclaiming often includes unlearning narratives shaped by colonialization, oppression, and survival-based adaptation. It is an intentional process of restoring agency, honoring lineage, reconnecting with ancestral wisdom and releasing ways of being that have kept us small.

At its core, reclaiming is about cultivating a sovereign, self‑led relationship with Reiki, and with yourself, one that belongs to you.

Do I need prior experience with Reiki or energy work?

No prior experience is needed. All offerings are beginner‑friendly and guided in a way that allows you to participate comfortably, whether you are new to energy work or have an established practice.

What can I expect during the 5 week course?

Weekly meet-ups that offer space for instruction, reflection, shared practice and integration.

  •  A combination of in-person (3) and virtual sessions (2), designed to support accessibility, flexibility, and different ways of engaging

  • Optional 30-minute session with Meesa

  • Opportunities to feel, practice, and decide for yourself – there is no expectation to perform, produce or reach a specific outcome

Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on listening to your own body, energy and intuition. You will be encouraged to move at your own pace, discern what feels aligned, and build a relationship with Reiki that is self-led, responsive, and rooted in your lived experience.

How do I know if Reclaiming Reiki is right for me?

While participants who complete the course will be attuned to Reiki Levels 1, 2, + 3, Reclaiming Reiki is not a certification‑driven or outcome‑focused program. The emphasis is on building a personal, self‑led relationship with Reiki—and with yourself. The focus is on awareness, inner listening, and self‑trust rather than performance, productivity, or external validation.

This space may not be aligned for you if:

-You are looking for something quick, passive, or purely informational
-You want healing without responsibility or self-inquiry
-You are seeking someone to tell you what to believe or how to practice
-You are not in a place to commit time, energy, or resources to this work
-You are primarily motivated by getting something for free without reciprocity
-You are not willing to hold space for trauma, BIPOC, gender-expansiveness or adversity in general.

When are the meeting dates and times?

What if I can’t attend all of the sessions?

Attendance is strongly encouraged, as the course is designed to build week to week, but we understand that life happens and flexibility is part of practicing energetic responsibility.

In addition to the live sessions, you will have a partner for support throughout the course, access to course materials and reflections to help you stay connected to the work if you need to miss a meeting.

Because this course is relational and community-based, consistent presence helps deepen the experience, for yourself and others.

What can I expect during a reiki session?

You may notice sensations such as warmth, relaxation, emotion, rest, or subtle shifts, or you may notice very little at all. There is no correct way to feel, sense, or experience Reiki. You are never asked to push beyond your capacity or to interpret what arises.

You also do not need to believe in Reiki for a session to be supportive. This practice does not require faith, ideology or a specific understanding of what is happening.

Reiki is approached not as something being done to you, but as a practice of noticing—how you relate to yourself, your energy, and your presence in the moment. Your role is not to achieve an outcome, but to remain in honest relationship with what is happening for you.

Is Reiki a replacement for medical or mental health care?

No. Reiki is a complementary practice and is not a substitute for medical, psychological, or psychiatric treatment. If you have health concerns, please continue working with licensed healthcare professionals alongside any energy‑based practices.

Is Reiki associated with any religion?

No. Reiki is spiritual in nature but not religious. It does not require adherence to any belief system and is compatible with a wide range of spiritual, secular, and cultural perspectives.

When do you need Reiki and how often?

There is no set schedule for Reiki. You do not need it on a timeline or only when something feels “wrong.”

Many people turn to Reiki during times of stress, transition, or disconnection. Others practice it regularly as part of self‑reflection and care. How often you engage is a personal choice and may change over time.

In Reclaiming Reiki, you are encouraged to listen to your body, capacity, and needs rather than follow a prescribed frequency. Rest, pacing, and integration matter just as much as practice.

At its core, Reiki is available to you whenever you choose to be in relationship with it, guided by self‑trust, not obligation.
